Date

July 23-27, 2018

Topic

Hadron spectroscopy and the search for unconventional states: glueballs, hybrids, multi quark states

Lecturers

Experiment: Marco Battaglieri (INFN Frascati)
Theory: Francesco Giacosa (University of Kielce)

Coordinator

Gerhard Burau (HGS-HIRe)

Agenda (preliminary)

HGS-HIRe lecture weeks are crossdisciplinary events that cover experimental, theoretical and technical aspects of a particular research field together. This lecture week on hadron physics offers an introduction to and overview of hadron spectroscopy that represents a powerful tool to investigate the nature of the strong interaction. Beside the traditional use of hadronic probes and e+e- colliders, a new generation of electron- and photo-production experiments will provide precise and abundant new data. The theoretical description of particularly unconventional states like glueballs, hybrids, and multi quark states is challenging as well and will be addressed in this lecture week too.

The lectures will be given by experts from the field, who are extremely knowledgeable and didactically experienced with the topics. Students who are involved in research on hadron physics, both experimentally and theoretically, as well as students who are generally interested in particle physics and QCD are very welcome to attend this lecture week.

For registration please send a brief email to info[at]hgs-hire.de as soon as possible.

Practical Information

Begin/End

The lecture week starts on Monday with a welcome session at 12:00. Please arrive well in time. Check-in, i.e. distribution of the rooms, will be on Monday after lunch. The scientific program starts with the first lecture at 14:00. The lecture week will close on Friday afternoon.

Late arrivals

If you will arrive late please contact the coordinator in advance so key pick up can be arranged.

Venue

The lecture week will be at Haus Humboldtstein, D-53424 Remagen/Rolandseck, directly at the Rhine river in an old mansion. The famous 'art train station' Rolandseck is located beneath the meeting site. The website of the venue can be found >here.

Travel

Travel to the venue is on Monday, July 23, in the morning. Please arrange your travel to the location individually. You can easily reach the venue by train (details >here). Corresponding travel costs will be reimbursed after the lecture week by HGS-HIRe. It's a 10 minutes walk from the train station in Rolandseck to the meeting site. If you can not or do not want to make use of the train connection, please try to travel by car pool. If somebody wants to offer a lift, he/she should send an email to info@hgs-hire.de so that we can forward the information to the other participants of the lecture week.

Accomodation

Accommodation is mostly in twin bed rooms. If you want to share the room with a particular roommate, please inform the coordinator in advance.

Food

Full board is included in the lecture week. Special food requirements (vegetarian, other) should be communicated to the coordinator in advance.

What to bring

Clothing: The lecture week will be very informal, so only casual attire is necessary. Please plan for an outdoor social activity (depending on weather).
Linen/towel/others: All rooms are fully equipped, particularly with linen and towels. Please bring your soap and hair dryer (if needed).

Internet

Wireless internet access is available. Please bring your own laptop.

Expenses

All basic expenses like accommodation and full board are covered by HGS-HIRe. You only have to pay for local expenses (drinks etc. in the evening).

Insurance

Though this trip will not generate any costs for your supervisor or group please do not forget to file a trip request so you are covered by insurance during the lecture week. Please ask the secretary of your official supervisor at the university for the appropriate form.
