Course Information

Course Contents/Program

The workshop will combine introductory lectures with extensive hands-on exercises, providing participants with both the theoretical foundation and practical experience in implementing and optimizing tracking algorithms.

Topics will include:

  • Introduction to tracking concepts and detector geometry
  • The Kalman Filter and its application to track fitting
  • Cellular Automaton–based tracking
  • Secondary vertex reconstruction
  • Efficient programming and parallelization techniques

Introduction to the ACTS (A Common Tracking Software) framework, including geometry building, propagation, and fast simulation. Participants will gain insight into modern tracking frameworks and develop hands-on skills in using and extending these algorithms in realistic scenarios. The HGS-HIRe PEP is targeted at doctoral students and advanced master’s students with an interest in tracking and reconstruction in particle physics. The focus of the PEP is on education and skill development, aiming to strengthen the computational and analytical toolbox of the participants rather than presenting scientific results.

Agenda

This three-day workshop will consist of a mixture of lectures and hands-on sessions (see description above).
